- According to Howard Gardner, a creative person is one who ‘regularly solves problems, fashions products, and/or poses new questions in a domain in a way which is initially considered novel but which is ultimately accepted in at least one cultural setting’(1993: 35). Highly creative people often innovate in a specific domain in ways that forever influence subsequent practitioners and practice. It is uncommon for innovators to make significant contributions to more than one domain in a lifetime. But in this regard, the late martial artist and actor Bruce Lee (1940–1973) was a clear exception to the rule considering his highly innovative contributions not just to oriental martial arts but to the domain of screen fighting as well, considering the extent to which he changed screen fighting choreography, martial arts cinema and the kung fu film forever as well as transformed cultural representations of Chinese men in the West, amongst other things.
